Orca Classic
Orca Classic is a nomadic expedition. For a six days you will embrace the wilderness, wildlife and rainforests of Johnstone Strait, Blackfish Sound and the islands of the Village Group. Summer Orca ( killer whales) return to these pristine waters of Johnstone Strait to feast on salmon. Bald Eagles, Dall's porpoises and white side dolphins also follow to join a summer spectacle of the inside passage.
Our trips offer the explorer a six day nomadic sea kayaking adventure that focuses on the best of Johnstone Strait and Blackfish Sound. The focus of these trips is kayaking, wildlife observations and native site visitations.
Enjoy the many islands and remote passages of Johnstone Strait and Blackfish Sound from your sea kayak, and hike through the enchanting coastal rainforests of the region. The walk through the abandoned village of Mi'mkwamlis, the exchange of information with summer researchers, and a visit to the waters of Robson Bight are also highlights, weather permitting. Two campsites are used on these trips to allow us time to explore the vastness of intertidal waters of the area.

There's no better way to encounter pods of these friendly (and inappropriately named) Killer Whales than up close and personal, while sea kayaking the British Columbia waters of Johnstone Strait. Kayaking with killer whales in British Columbia. Discovery Expeditions is a tour and vacations outfitter of sea kayak expeditions and Guided Tours to Johnstone Strait on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. We specialize in close encounter sea kayak expeditions with orcas, or killer whales, other whales such as humpback whales, minke whales, dolphins and porpoises, seals and sea lions. Kayaking with Killer Whales, orca, sightings are very common on our orca kayak tours so we guarantee that you will see them. We also offer grizzly bear and whale watching tours.

Orca Classic Itinerary...
Day 1: - The morning starts at Telegraph Cove, where the guides demonstrate the safety and important steps to enjoyable sea kayaking. During the afternoon, we will stop on a sheltered beach for our first walk into the coastal rainforest. By early evening we will arrive at our first camp.
Day 2: - This morning we will embark deeper into Johnstone Strait with a visit to the edge of Robson Bight Ecological Reserve. Lunch is spent often with the wardens' of the Reserve on a open beach in clear site of the entire area of Johnstone Strait. Late afternoon is a great time to wash up at a local stream. After which we make our way back to camp and catch an evening paddle after dinner.
Day 3: - A morning journey to a small group of islands rich in marine life, eagle rookeries, and best of all, small remote beaches that catch the afternoon sun well into the evening. Time will be spent exploring the immediate shorelines of these islands and adjacent beaches. Mid-morning features a walk into the rain forest.
Afternoon starts with sharing lunch with whale researchers on a bluff high atop Johnstone Strait. If Orca pass by you have the best seat in the house. As the afternoon continues we make our way back to camp for dinner. An evening paddle is a pleasant way to end this day.
Day 4: - This morning we resume our journey through remote passages to a destination of some twenty uninhabited islands. During our stay in these islands you will explore the site of the last potlatch and walk an ancient pathway to carvings, totems, and abandoned residences of a distant past. Later that afternoon we will paddle a different route back to camp and explore more wonders of this area.
Day 5 : - We bid a farewell to this interesting part of our trip and continue our journey back into the waters frequently visited by Orca, White-sided Dolphins, and Minke Whale. By late afternoon our journey will continue into a shoreline rich in kelp forests and alive with the sounds of kingfishers, eagles, and raven.
The evening is capped off with dinner and reflection on a complete day of pleasant experiences.
Day 6: - A relaxed day with a short journey to explore an island that has unique small beaches and plants. Your guide will situate you close to the travelling paths of Orca Whales, Eagles and other wildlife of these parts.

Through My Eyes
By Melissa L. Thomas
Why is it everyone wants me
to be what I don't want to be
Fitting in is harder then it seems
And I wonder... What about my dreams?
There must be more then this echoing tank
Where I will be free of this boring prank
I dance so graceful as my captors wish
Tons of work for a few edible fish
The cool water brushes over my skin
The sun rays dive through the 'sea' I'm in
I cry and the others understand
My cries are songs, heard by sea and land
For now I am trapped her, cold and sad
Thoughts cross my mind, all which are bad
Born here I was, die here I shall
But my story, I fear, no one will tell
