UpCoast Summer Trips

Every dreams about seeing the hidden wonders of the Inside Passage north of  Puget Sound. We have given a great deal of thought to revisiting areas we found abundant wildlife, amazing estuaries and hidden lagoons. In most of these destinations few visit by sea kayak usually it is float plane assess only. Infrequently, boats wonder in the inlet of the foird in the summer months only. We are going to visit some of these areas during the late summer when the salmon are running and the bugs have all died off.

We will be visiting inlets that are flanked by waterfalls and hidden lakes. Inlets that wonder through snowcapped mountains to quite estuaries that support coastal wolf and grizzly bear populations. In some cases, native populations still habitat in these mountain inlets. If this sounds like a trip you would like to be a part of in August or September....read on.

Estuaries for the most part are difficult to get to, useless you have a coast cruiser like we do. Our 30 ft land craft can assess most areas other vessels cannot. We carry sea kayaks and a small 12 ft zodiac that has seen most of the areas we plan to visit in 2009. What awaits us in a lush uncut and unsettled of prime habitat. We do not want to leave any footprint if we can help it thus, we choose to stand in water craft as much as possible. Sea kayaks are excellent for investigating the sensitive biodiversity of the estuary ecosystems.

UpCoast Summer Itineraries...

Knight Inlet ...Cruise north to the estuary and explore the mouth of the Kliniklini and the Franklin Rivers. Access to the rivers with kayaks and a small zodiac will allow us to penetrate deep into the watersheds. Time will be spent kayaking some of the small bays on Knight Inlet with a visit to the Glendale Area.

Seymour Inlet...Cruise north to the entrance of Seymour Inlet where the movement of water is impressive and the wildlife is unique. The bulk of this trip will be spent exploring the three arms that make up this waterway is sea kayaks. Belize Inlet will be a focal point of this trip.

Kingcome Inlet...Cruise northeast to the estuaries of the rivers that create an abundant habitat for a variety of wildlife and local village community that has a long history in this Inlet. Local hikes to peaks of 1500 m will be part of this trip. Sea kayaking the distant portion of Kingcome Inlet and Broughton Island will be our focus on this trip.

Bond Sound...Crossings of Johnstone Strait, Baronet Passage and Knight Inlet will be our access route to the waters of Bond Sound. Exploration of the Sound and the surrounding waters will be done from sea kayaks and a small zodiac.
